Whether they have gained A levels or a BTEC...what is the best move they can make while so many big companies are closing down and unemployment rate is so high.
Would you advise them to go on to University? Do you genuinely believe they have a better chance of finding employment with a university qualification? If they don't want to further their education, what would be their best move?
Thanks for answering in advance! What is the best advice you would give to college leavers in this time of recession in terms of employment?
During a recession, if you can get a grant for college then getting an education is a great thing. With a degree, you open more doors to a job. You can also start your own business but you'll need to do some research and find something that is right for you and it should be something that people cannot live without.
Getting an education is never a bad thing. I'd just hate to see you come out of school with student loans and still be in a bad economy. If you could get a grant and work your way through school you'd be debt free when you graduated and that would be good. What is the best advice you would give to college leavers in this time of recession in terms of employment?
That depends on what kind of career you want to pursue. While you're in college, you don't want to pursue a degree that will get you virtually zero job oppurtunities. (I majored in Creative Writing, worst mistake ever). Look at the current trends and see what careers are in high demand in your area. Then find the proper schools, training, etc to pursue those kind of jobs. Find related intership oppurtunities in those areas whenever possible and talk to people in the career centers.
A college degree of some form is highly recommend. The greater the degree the better.
i would go on to uni but do somthing that will lead to employment and is vocational , I did art at uni and it was a waste of time job wise , but some of my mate did engineering and building services and went straight into well paid jobs , if i were you i would look at sectors with job shortages and gear your education towards those sectors ,
I'd say get a higher degree definitely wouldn't hurt. But it would be even more helpful to be able to get an internship or just volunteer. Get some experience.
