What is the best advice for a French major?

I am entering a freshman in college as a French major. I have taken French all four years in high school. I also went on exchange my senior year in high school in the fall. Is there any advice that you can give me to succeed? What is the best advice for a French major?
I am not a French major but I am a Spanish Language minor.

Try to read a lot of French newspapers and books. For the newspapers, read some of the articles out loud so you can practice your speaking skills. Literature enhances your understanding of French culture and also expands your vocabulary.

You should try writing notes in French. I do not mean writing all of your notes...but just everyday things. Like if you are writing a shopping list, try that in French. Or just a quick note to yourself in French.

Most of all...study abroad! I went to Spain and I could not tell you how amazing it was to be there! I could not speak as quickly as native speakers but after I came back, my Spanish language and culture expanded immensely! It is a wonderful experience because you feel some connection to the people you met and the places you went to because the language connects you!

Good luck in your studies! What is the best advice for a French major?
Talk with your adviser and make sure you are planning some sort of Study Abroad during your time. My school always had a number of French students there on abroad programs as well, so try to meet them. Most schools have a French club or Round Table so make sure your a part of that!

Bonne chance!
